What
is IELTS?
IELTS,
the International
English Language
Testing System,
is designed to assess
the language ability
of candidates who
need to study or
work where English
is the language
of communication.
IELTS
is jointly managed
by University of
Cambridge ESOL Examinations
(Cambridge ESOL),
British Council
and IDP:IELTS Australia.
IELTS conforms to
the highest international
standards of language
assessment. It covers
the four language
skills - listening,
reading, writing
and speaking.
IELTS
is recognised by
universities and
employers in many
countries, including
Australia, Canada,
New Zealand, the
UK and the USA.
It is also recognised
by professional
bodies, immigration
authorities and
other government
agencies.
The
internationally-recognised
nine (9) band score
system of IELTS
is a dependable
way to measure your
language proficiency.
Each Band corresponds
to a descriptive
statement giving
a summary of English
competence. Overall
Band Scores can
be reported in either
whole or half Bands.
The
nine bands and their
descriptive statements
are:
