The Preparatory Course for Singapore-Cambridge GCE ‘O’ Level Programme is a two-year programme that focuses on building proficiency on students’ choice of subjects. Teachers use effective teaching techniques including multimedia technology and the facilitation of class discussions and group work to assist in students’ knowledge acquisition. The programme provides a foundation for students to pursue higher-level education.

Upper Secondary AUSMAT programme

The Upper Secondary AUSMAT Year 9 and 10 is a preparatory course for the AUSMAT Year 11 and 12 Programme leading to the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE). The programme aims to ensure that students achieve their personal best and develop a sense of pride in themselves, their school, the environment and the society. All students in this programme are registered in School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) of Western Australia.

Promotion Criteria

Promotion from Secondary 3 to Secondary 4 will be based on students’ internal assessment results. Students must obtain passes in English and 3 other subjects to be promoted to Secondary 4. Students must have a minimum attendance rate of 90% in all their classes.

External Examinations

The Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are held twice a year, in January and May. Certain subjects such as English as a Second Language, Chinese Language, History, and ICT are only available during the May examination.

Pathways upon Completion of Course

The Pearson Edexcel International GCSE is accepted for enrolment in the International Advanced Level programs, or in tertiary institutions where the respective subjects requirements are met. It is also an ideal preparation for higher level courses at St Francis Methodist School, which offers:

Education Standard Assurance

All students in this programme will participate in the National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) test in Year 9 and Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) in Year 10. The NAPLAN test (for Year 9) aims to benchmark students’ literacy and numerical skills. OLNA test, on the other hand, determines whether Year 10 students have the required English literacy and numeracy skills for Pre-University. Starting 2016, OLNA test is one of the requirements in achieving Western Australia Certificate of Education (WACE). Year 9 students who have achieved Band 8 in their NAPLAN test need not sit for OLNA.

Promotion Criteria

Year 9: Minimum C-grade in English, Mathematics, Science and Business Management Enterprise; average score of at least 50 marks for AICT, Society and Environment and VPA.

Year 10: Minimum C-grade in English, Mathematics, Science and Business Management Enterprise or Accounts; average score of at least 50 marks for AICT, Society and Environment and VPA.
