Christian Fellowship Sentosa Camp Beta -
The Camp for lower Secondary (Sec 1-3 and ELF)
The CF Sentosa Camp Beta was held on 10 – 12 Aug 2006 at Scripture Union Sentosa CampSite. The theme for the camp was “Standing on the Rock”. The theme verse was taken from the Gospels of Matthew 7:24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and out them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
The participants were challenged to grasp the meaning of “ a wise man who built his house upon the Rock” according to Matthew 7:24. Here, Mr Chang Weng Moon explored its meaning with us using the psychoanalyst Erik Erikson’s developmental model in the theme talk session. The participants were made aware of their struggles as a young adult who is going through a stage of identity crisis. The challenge for the participant is to continue to read the Word of God that would build strong and right values in the students.
The objective of the camp includes giving the opportunity for participants to experience God’s love through their relationship with each other. The ice-breakers, the night walk and the station game, ‘on the Rock’ were designed to strengthen the bond among the participants. Some of the students are shy and tense at the beginning when they are getting to know the other participants. However, the ice- breakers evaporated the shyness. It was amazing that in the short period of time given during the camp, they were able to relax and have a great time of fun. Furthermore, the station game –“on the Rock,” gave the opportunity for the participants to work as a team. In addition, the free time was given to the participants to enjoy the beauty of Sentosa Island, impressing a lasting memory on everyone’s minds. On the final night, they also have the opportunity to showcase their talent in the Star Night. Fresh talent is discovered and some participants realize that they too can act and sing.
Indeed the activities held during the camp help to break the cultural and language barrier among the foreign students who have just arrived in Singapore.
In addition, the camp is certainly filled with the fun and joy of knowing and assisted in strengthening the participants’ relationship with one another.
